1. The definition of AI
Artificial intelligence is a broad area of computer science which aims to make a machine simulate human intelligence and function independently and intelligently.
2. When it all started
AI started in the 1900s, back when lots of people’s careers were spent doing the same repetitive actions, but we had started gaining some amount of understanding of our cognitive function. They then adapted this thinking to machines, and artificial intelligence stemmed from that. There were a lot of theoretical papers and researchers working on ethics, but AI became popular sometime in the 1950s.
3. People’s misconceptions
For many generations we have imagined a society where machines would start taking revenge. Why do we always fear that this world will be taken over by robots? There are multiple reasons. One reason is that as human beings we always fear something that we are not in control of. With these machines, we are teaching them to solve problems like human brains. We are scared that the machines will have more experience than us.
4. Six dimensions of AI
There are six broad dimensions of artificial intelligence: speech and audio recognition, natural language processing, image processing, pattern recognition, deep learning and robotics.
5. How it affects our jobs
It's not humans versus machines, it's humans and machines versus the problem. Instead, humans must start working on skills which are more specific to them.
6. The most promising fields
One is in the health industry. When precision-based surgeries are required, they can use AI, especially in the case of transplants, and they can do roboticsurgery, which is hugely successful. It can cure a lot of unknown diseases. Maybe it comes up with a cure for all these neurological diseases. Who knows! Just imagine a pandemic, but instead of 10 doctors there are, in addition, 100 robots, maybe we could have done more.
7. A surprising use of AI
During football matches or other matches where there are teams of people, AI is used to come up with strategies and answer how does this player react or act in different situations? AI has these data points and has everything stored in the system. So, for example, it will tell you if you're on the opposite team, a certain player has six different moves and out of that, the four that most people would not use in this situation. In this way, you can predict the remaining two moves, and you can act accordingly.
8. More data is the challenge
More data is the biggest challenge of AI right now because you do not know how much data is enough. The more and more data that comes, and the machine becomes better. Depending on the volume of the business, we do have some key processing indicators. So, if we are looking at banking and let's say we have a hundred thousand loans, then you need at least 10 percent of that data to make accurate predictions. That’s what we usually look for.
9. The massive progression of data volume
90 percent of existing data has been generated in the last two years. The speed accelerated, because we advanced noticeably in hardware and processing time.
10. Data and A.I. in the future
The mining process will only accelerate because there's no end to this amount of processing speed increase that we can do. My wish is that we use AI to save lives. That is where it would be great and, at the same time, not to destroy lives in any manner. If we do that, I think there is no end to this game. AI can make lives better.
