Financial Shero of the Week

10 questions for Daniela Markovic, Spokesperson Financial Communications at Allianz SE

1.  What did you buy with your first self-earned money?

I bought a fancy digital single-lens reflex camera as I love photography and enjoy capturing beautiful images.

2.  What tools do you use to organize your finances?

I use Finance Planner Multi Banking which tracks and categorizes income, expenses, savings, investments, retirement, and insurance and suggests budgets based on past expenses. It makes recommendations on how I can save, helps me monitor and have full control over my personal financial planning and transactions. Also, I use Excel and OneNote to set budgets for housing, food, entertainment, shopping, healthcare, and holidays.

3.  Do you own stocks or funds?

Both. I have shares in my company and invest in mixed funds, which are an important component of my retirement planning.

4.  If we gave you 1000 Euros, what would you do with the money?

I’d invite a couple of friends to a nice weekend getaway with lots of good food, tennis, yoga and running sessions on the beach.

5.  What is worth spending (a lot of) money on?

For education and for travelling. Both make you grow and widen your horizon and offer opportunities to expand your knowledge, uncover unique places, make personal connections with variety of people, and do things which may make you leave your comfort zone. They are always worth spending (a lot of) money on because return on investment is always high.

6.  Have you ever forgotten your PIN?

Luckily no, my memory has never let me down.

7.  How do you pay: card or digital?

I use both depending on the purpose; e.g., when travelling I usually pay with my card, when shopping online I usually use PayPal.

8.  Last major purchase?

I began vocational training at a yoga school in Munich to become a certified yoga coach. After practicing yoga for several years as exercise complimentary to my tennis and running training, I decided to learn more about the science behind it.

9.  The last time you managed to resist the impulse to buy – and what was it?

I recently spotted a unique leather manufacturer where you can design and customize your own leather handbag. You choose the  style, texture, color, lining, enter your monogram, and craft something that speaks to you, something that nobody else has. In the end you get a high-quality handmade product with a personal touch, which is worth more than anything mass produced. As I’m still eyeing it, I can’t say that I resisted the urge to buy … Ask me later. 🙂

10.  What is priceless?

Time is priceless. Time with family and friends. Time for yourself. Good relationships and adventures with your loved ones. These things fill your mind with positive energy and have the greatest impact on your health.
