Diversity Manager of the Month: Uta Menges, IBM

Each month we nominate a female or male diversity manager who has impressed us with his or her commitment. Our June pick is Uta Menges from IBM, who is responsible for internal and external diversity measures in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

Why does every modern company need a diversity manager?
This role ensures that the diversity strategy is aligned to the company’s HR and business strategy by shaping the vision of an inclusive environment in a local context, focusing on specific goals and driving current priorities.

“All leaders should act as role models by creating a culture of respect and appreciation for each employee.”

What are the best measures for more diversity?
The overall goal is to create an inclusive work environment where everybody can bring his or her whole self to work. A very important measure is a committed leadership team. All leaders should act as role models by creating a culture of respect and appreciation for each employee. They are an essential part of communication campaigns and work closely with our employee network groups. On the other hand, it is important to foster voluntary engagement of employees. We invite all IBM employees to become an active part of diversity programs or events.
